Budgeting and financial planning

Budgets, plan vs actual and management reporting the owner can run the business by

Budgeting is a system in which the owner sees the company’s revenue, costs and cash month by month in advance and compares plan with actual. We set up budgets and management reporting for your business, an annual financial plan and a financial risk management system, and train your team to use them. The result is a handful of numbers you run the business by — not the accountant’s annual report.

Why a budget if you have an accountant

Accounting in Spain answers to the tax authority and looks backwards: the report comes out months after the events. An owner needs numbers for decisions now: how much cash there will be next month, which line makes a profit, where costs have overrun the plan. That is management accounting and budgeting — run by the company, not by the gestoría.

Signs you need a budget

  1. Spending decisions are made by feel.
  2. It is unclear which product, customer or site makes money.
  3. Cash in the bank and profit in the report live separate lives.
  4. The company is growing and the owner can no longer see everything personally.
  5. A bank or investor asks for a plan and there is none.

What you get

An income and expense budget and a monthly cash-flow budget.
Management reporting and 5–10 key performance indicators (KPIs) for the owner.
Procedures: who plans, reports and approves spending, when and how.
An annual financial plan with scenarios.
A financial risk management system: what to track and what to do when figures deviate.
Team training: how to run the budget and read the reports.

What clients say

We came to Finetic Consulting for a business plan and financial model for our project IMSKIPPER.NET. We liked how quickly Vladislav prepares documents and how deeply he works them through. It is comfortable to work together: every question can be discussed at online meetings while the work is in progress.

What we do not do

  • We do not keep the books or file tax returns — that is for a gestoría or asesor fiscal; we work with their data.
  • We do not act as a permanent finance director: we set up the system and train the team.
  • We do not guarantee the budget will be met: it shows deviations in time, and the owner makes the decisions.

Frequently asked questions

What is budgeting in a company?

It is planning revenue, costs and cash flow month by month and regularly comparing plan with actual. The budget shows the owner where the business is drifting from the plan while it can still be fixed.

How much does setting up budgeting cost?

It depends on the size of the business, the number of business lines and how accounting works today. We quote the price after the introductory call and a look at your data.

How is a budget different from the accountant’s reports?

Accounting answers to the tax authority and looks backwards. Budgets and management accounting look forward and answer to the owner: how much cash there will be, what makes a profit, where costs have overrun.

Do we need special software?

Not necessarily. For a small or mid-sized business, Excel or Google Sheets with a clear structure is often enough; software is chosen once the process works.

Do you train staff?

Yes, in the “Implementation and control” package: how to run the budget, enter actuals, read reports and analyse variances.
